Leucothoe Coast (Leucothoe axillaris)
Description:
Leucothoe Coast (Leucothoe axillaris), also known as Coast Leucothoe or Coastal Doghobble, is a graceful, evergreen shrub valued for its arching branches and glossy, dark green leaves that turn reddish-bronze in fall and winter. In spring, it produces clusters of small, fragrant, urn-shaped white flowers that attract pollinators. This low-maintenance shrub thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, acidic soils, making it an excellent choice for shaded gardens, woodland borders, and erosion control on slopes. Its dense, spreading habit provides year-round texture and color in the landscape.
